I Started Blogging in 2008

Lamo. Better late than never they always say.

I’ve had this design ready for over a year now (could it really be that long?) but never seemed to find the time to launch the site. For one, I really wanted to build it with Django, but could never seem to find the time to learn enough Python and Django to do that, at least not the way I wanted it to work.

I knew I would be adding things to this site in the future that would not be fun to create with something like Wordpress or Drupal. Having hacked up several other CMS type systems out there, the aforementioned too many times, I came to realize I was often trying to put the circle in the square hole.

That started my search almost 2 years ago for a better way. After seeing Jeff’s posts about Django and watching Adrian speak, I knew that I wanted to use Django for this site and perhaps for most of my future ones. I just never thought it would take so long.

My previous full time gig and several client projects kept me so busy that I just never found the time to create this site. After deciding to hang my shingle out as a full time SEO consultant in early January I’ve been able to spend some time learning a little Python and Django. I’m happy to report that Django has been everything I thought it would be. I love knowing that I’ll have the flexibility to do pretty much anything I want with this site in the future.

A big thanks goes to James Bennett for comment-utils and the contact form. Jeff Croft for his great site and quick feedback when I asked him a question many months back. Jonathan for Django Tagging, to the creators and contributors to Django (Thank you!) and all of the others who helped inspire me along the way.

I’ve got lots of functionality and ideas to add to the site but for now this will have to do. Time for me to go build some cool stuff that I can show off here.

  • Neum,

Firstly, welcome to the sphere! I’ve been a long time fan of Python and more recently of Django as well and have started digging in as you have.

As an aside, that is an impressive search result you’ve got listed in your about page. If you intend on blogging about all things search and marketing, I’ll be reading with interest!
